Alexander Temerko welcomes a debate in the House of Lords on interconnectors
AQUIND Limited director, Alexander Temerko, welcomes a debate in the House of Lords on interconnectors that took place on 18 May 2021. Furthermore, the Government’s ongoing commitment to building further interconnectors and to the Energy White Paper which provides for at least 18GW of interconnector capacity by 2030 are also highly welcomed.
Once operational, AQUIND Interconnector will help to meet UK’s 2050 Net Zero targets. It will support greater integration of non-fossil fuel generation, contribute to the security of supply and help reduce wholesale electricity prices. The project will be capable of transmitting enough electricity to keep the lights on in up to 5 million British households.
During the debate the Government has clearly explained that without a cooperation with Europe in the energy sector it will not be possible, for at least several decades, to achieve Net Zero objectives and provide enough electricity to meet the demand.
